Iridescent Mosaic Tiles
Iridescent Mosaic Tiles FAQ
Iridescent mosaic tiles are small glass tiles with a special coating that shifts colour as the light and your viewing angle change. The effect comes from a thin surface layer that reflects light in different ways, giving walls and splashbacks a subtle, moving sheen.
Yes, glass iridescent mosaics work well in wet areas and are a popular choice for showers, splashbacks and bathroom feature walls. Glass is non-porous, so it doesn't absorb water and resists mould better than some natural materials. Just make sure the surface is fully waterproofed and the tiles are fitted with a suitable adhesive and grout rated for wet rooms.
They make an excellent splashback because glass wipes clean easily and shrugs off cooking splashes, grease and steam. The iridescent finish also reflects kitchen light, which helps a small or dark cooking space feel brighter. Fit them with a heat-resistant adhesive if the tiles sit close to a hob, and seal the grout lines to keep them looking fresh.
Glass mosaics are usually supplied on mesh-backed sheets, so most cuts happen along the joints between individual chips, which you can snip with tile nippers. For straight cuts through the glass itself, use a wet saw fitted with a diamond blade designed for glass. Work slowly to avoid chipping, and wear eye protection since glass can splinter.
A pale or neutral grey grout keeps the focus on the shimmer and suits most colours, whilst a darker grout makes each tile stand out with more contrast. Avoid bright white with darker tiles, as it can look stark and show staining over time. It's worth testing first as grout colour changes the whole look.
Wipe them with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, then buff dry to keep the shimmer clear. Avoid abrasive scourers, harsh scouring powders and acidic cleaners, as these can dull or scratch the iridescent coating. For limescale on a shower wall, use a mild descaler suited to glass and rinse well afterwards.
No, the finish is fired into the glass rather than painted on top, so it won't peel or rub away with normal use and cleaning. The colour-shift effect stays intact for the life of the tile when you avoid abrasive cleaners and rough scrubbing. Fitted correctly, these tiles keep their sheen for years.
Work out the area you're covering in square metres, then add roughly 10% extra to allow for cuts, breakages and future repairs. Each product page lists the sheet size and coverage, so you can divide your total area by the coverage per sheet. If you're unsure, the team can help you calculate quantities before you buy.
